This position is located at the Rapid City Service Unit, in Rapid City, South Dakota. The incumbent provides a visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling the buildings and grounds of Rapid City Service Unit. The incumbent patrols buildings and grounds to protect property, patients, visitors, and employees from danger of accidents, fires, theft, or intrusions. Enforces hospital security rules & regulations; Monitors GSA vehicles to identify number and location; patrols buildings (Hospital, Property & Supply, Maintenance, Dental Clinic, Public Health Nursing, Health Education, and Social Services) and grounds to protect property, patients, visitors, and employees from dangers, accidents, thefts, and/or intrusions. The incumbent responds when summoned via overhead page, beeper, cellular phone, or radio to assist staff with belligerent or dangerous staff, patients, and/or visitors. Assists with CPR and provides crowd control. Assures that all exterior hospital doors remain locked during designated times. Obtains medical records from the Medical Records Department utilizing the established numerical system. The incumbent assists with emergency housekeeping duties (i.e., mopping, wiping down ER tables, etc.) in the absence of Housekeeping Staff when requested. Secures weapons or firearms from patients, visitors and/or staff according to hospital policy. Maintains prompt, courteous, culturally sensitive services to hospital staff, visitors, patients and community. Coordinates and monitors "Sweat Activities"; notifying the Fire Department of the schedule. The incumbent maintains computer log of daily activities and prepares reports of all unusual situations and conditions encountered during tour of duty; performs Notary Public Duties; Compliance with Standards: JCAHO, IHS--Facility Compliance Plan, Rapid City Service Unit, Security Department to include Age Specific Compliance. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
GS-4: (6) Six months of general experience; AND (6) Six months of specialized experience.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience such as administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:
* Education: Successfully completed study at an accredited college or university in any subject is fully qualifying in the amount and level specified in the table.
* Training: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience at the GS-4 level on a month-for-month basis.
