The incumbent repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacture's specifications, machinery, and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pneumatic tools, heating systems, and air conditioning equipment, using handtools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Dismantle devises to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, handtools, and power tools. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Repairs and replaces defective parts, using handtools and power tools. Starts devices to test their performance. Lubricates and cleans parts. May set up and operate drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. May repair and provide routine service to electrical equipment that heat and cool facilities and structures.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook). Element A. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

Element B. Knowledge of tools and equipment

Element C. Knowledge of technical practices.

Element D. Ability to interpret instructions, blueprints, specifications, etc.

Element E. Knowledge of materials.

Element F. Ability to use and maintain tools and operate and maintain equipment and use of measuring instruments.

Element G. Dexterity and safety.

Applicants will be rated upon the statements in their Supplemental Experience Statement, listed in announcement, their application and upon any additional information secured. It will be to their advantage to give a clear and complete description of any pertinent experience or training gained, including types of equipment and devices with which concerned. This must be completed in order to show skills, abilities, and knowledge under the elements outlined above.




SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.


OTHER: Incumbent is required to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle, in the performance of duties, therefore, a valid driver's license is required. A valid Class-A State Commercial Driver's License is required. Considerable driving is required.
